William Hill Review

William Hill is one of the oldest and most established bookmakers in the world. They could be seen as a pioneer in the industry and were actually one of the first to take their company digital by offering phone betting and onto the World Wide Web. Their following is one that most bookmakers’ only dream of and it’s been their dedication to supporting a host of sports around the world that has been particularly impressive.

Before going into this review we already know that William Hill is going to be a more than solid bookmaker. You don’t get to spend over 80 years at the top of an industry by creating a substandard product. So, we will be looking more towards what sorts of features have made William Hill the bookmaker it is today and also, if we can find anything that can be improved.

Promotions

At William Hill you can claim a free bet worth up to £25 when you register a new account. It’s actually a 100% match on your opening bet starting from £5 up to £25. Once you placed your wager then the bet will be placed automatically into your account to use on any market of your choice. Qualifying bets must be placed at odds of 1/5 (1.2) or greater.

You will get 7 days from the free bet being placed into your account to it expiring. The free bet cannot be split up and the whole amount must be used in one go. It’s also worth noting that this promotion is only available to residents in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Canada and Netherlands.

Features

We’re going to kick off with a relatively new and small feature to the site, but one that we thought was quite quirky. It’s William Hill’s popular bets accumulator section, which can be found in the right hand sidebar on the homepage. It basically includes six football selections that have been popular selections for other punters. So, it takes them all as singles and whacks them into one accumulator bet. They’re often short priced favourites, but not only does it give you some inspiration for your accumulator bet, but you can also see which teams are popular amongst other bettors. The slider will allow you to choose how much you want pout on and the returns section will update accordingly.

One thing that William Hill have always been pro-active with is their live betting section. This is probably the busiest part of the site for us, and not just because it’s updating every second, but it seems to be where a number of fresh markets appear and always a hive of activity. It’s pretty obvious saying that, but when you check it out, you will know what we mean!

WHTV (William Hill TV) is the companies live streaming section, and we must say that’s one of the best in the business. It covers a number of sports including football, snooker, tennis ice hockey, darts, basketball, cricket, handball, rugby league and volleyball. We found it’s actually the main reason as to why we keep going back to the site, as the depth of matches are simply superb. Granted, some of the games can be obscure, but that’s always going to be the case for a lot of these live streaming channels. One thing we would have liked to see however is some sort of link between the stream and the live betting market from William Hill. Bet365 offer this to their punters and it’s arguably one of the best features in the industry, never mind just on site.

William Hill also put a lot of time into their radio show and podcasts. The main sports targeted for this is horse racing, but that’s mainly because there is just so much racing on offer that it would be daft not to. That being said, the likes of darts, football and cricket are three popular channels on the site.

Verdict

William Hill has essentially built up a business model and reputation on just doing every well. They don’t really ‘wow’ you or make you think that it’s the best bookmaker in the world, because in our opinion they aren’t. They don’t have quite enough features, markets and competitive pricing to be this.

On the other hand, it’s very hard to really pick faults with the sites. Whilst they don’t have certain things in abundance, what is on offer is actually very good. The live streaming section is undoubtedly their best asset but we cant help but think that they could possibly do a little more with their site to really push it to that next level; especially considering the vast following they already have in place.
